Things To Do On Move-In Day

So you’re about to cross the finish line after a big move, now what? First off, please take a moment to decompress and enjoy the newness of everything. Though you don’t want to spend too much celebrating just yet, because there may still be a few things to do.

Take a moment to review the items below to ensure transitioning into your new space goes as smooth as possible.

Take Care Of The Essentials

Unpack all your important items like clothes, toiletries, cleaning supplies, bedding, and any other “essential” items you will need right away. Making a point of doing this right away will alleviate the stress of frantically looking for these items when you need them.

Tidy Up A Bit

Before you officially start unpacking, it is a good idea to give your home a quick clean to get rid of any dirt or debris from the move. Plus, you don’t need the stress of having boxes everywhere, AND it being dirty so it will help the unpacking process and be less stressful.

Check In with Family and Friends

Give close family and friends a call to let them know you are officially moved in. If you have children, it’s important to talk to them about how they are feeling about the move, because moving can be physically and emotionally draining on everyone.

Create A To-Do-List

Even though you may play a superhero on TV, it’s no time for you to be one when moving if you don’t have to be. It’s a good idea to create a to-do-list, then delegate items to everyone in the family. This will help you from feeling as overwhelmed and will give everyone a little bit of ownership in the project.

Monitor Your Pets

Moving can be especially stressful on your furry friends, so it is important to make sure your pet(s) are properly cared for throughout the move-in process. You definitely want to pay close attention to your pet’s behavior over the first couple days/weeks. Stress can cause your pet(s) to be lethargic and possibly not eat or drink anything.

Here are more tips to help get them prepared for your move.

Much Need Sleep

This likely won’t be much of a surprise to you, but by the end you’re going to be tired, so having your bed ready to sleep in is a very important task – a very rewarding one at that.

Take A Shower/Bath

Take some time at the end of the day to unpack all your bathroom essentials and then take a shower or bath. This will make sleeping much easier and enjoyable that evening.

Relax

We’re sure you want to hustle to get everything unpacked and its intended space immediately, but this is unrealistic and can cause additional stress. It’s important to take your time unpacking and take plenty of breaks. Trying to do everything at once could call your body to break down, which could lead to physical, mental and emotional fatigue. Try to remember that the race is long, so don’t feel it all has be done today. It might be good to write out a timeline of when you want things completed to keep everyone accountable and to make sure things get completely in a timely manner.
