Okay, so you know you are moving. You know what you want to take and when you want it at your new place. Now, it is time to get to really know the people who are handling your most sacred treasures.
To learn more about potential moving companies, here are a few questions you should consider asking them to determine who you want to do your move.
- How many years have you been in business?
Some moving companies have been in business for over 85 years! While it is not a guarantee of great service, if they have been in business that long they are worth a phone call.
- Do you have references for your service?
Whether it is online testimonials or clients have worked with in the past, a well-established company should be able to easily provide you with references. If not, this could be a sign you should explore other options.
- Is your moving company insured?
If something were to happen to your stuff during a move, then it is good to know those higher-priced items would be covered by insurance so a good question to ask.
- Ask about quotes and extra fees
If the moving company does not do some form of onsite estimate then there is a good chance you could end up with extra fees at the end of your move. This is a little trick in the industry to get the business upfront because of the cheaper cost, then some companies will say the job came in “higher than expected.” They may also charge more for specialty items like pianos.
- Are there any extra fees I should know about?
You don’t want to be surprised on moving day with a series of extra charges you weren’t aware of, so make sure you ask your moving company about their policies.
- Do you offer packing services?
These charges are added to your baseline moving costs. Ask each moving company what types of packing services they offer, how much they cost, and what you need to prepare.
