While there is probably no such thing as a completely stress-free moving day, here are some tips to hopefully make it not as stressful.
Packing Headquarters
Create a spot for your packing list, labels, markers, tape, etc.
Like Santa… Make a list and check it twice
Before you pack anything, it’s important to create a system. It would be a good idea to number every box you pack and write the contents on your list. It’s also helpful to write down where each box will go in your new place so you don’t have to act like a traffic control operator the day of your move.
Make Sure You Have Plenty Of Supplies
You’ll need lots of boxes and packing materials – more than you think. Set aside about 10 boxes for last minute moving day items. Tall wardrobe boxes are perfect for bulky, lightweight items like comforters, pillows, and clothes that need to remain hanging.
Keep Things Together
Keep light bulbs with lamps, picture hooks with pictures, etc. It’s also a good idea to have at least one box that is dedicated to electronic accessories like remote controls, cords, ect…
Pack Early
Save time by packing everything you can ahead of time. If it’s not essential to daily living, pack it!
Cleaning Kit
Put together a kit of basic cleaning supplies for moving day clean up jobs.
Rest Up
Get plenty of rest the night before the move. This is likely easier said than done with so much going on in anticipation of your big day, but try to get a decent night’s sleep to ensure you’re alert and clicking on all cylinders.
Eat Well
Be conscience about what you eat the night before and that morning to make sure you have plenty of energy and don’t get an upset tummy. Might wait on eating anything spicy until you’re all moved into your new place.
Fruits and nuts are a great source of energy for snacks throughout the day. Here’s a list of other foods that work to maintain good energy levels.
