Any time that you or your workers spend moving is time spent away from what they they likely need to be focusing on for your company (Making money). In many cases, a more cost-effective approach is to outsource this project to prevent any loss of productivity and hire a professional moving company.
But, it could become a time suck and costly if you choose the wrong movers to help out with this project, so here are a few tips to make sure you hire true professionals.
Call Around
You’re busy so this is likely just one more thing on your “to do list,” but it’s important to talk with several different moving companies to ensure you pick the one that meets your company’s timeline and needs. By calling around, you will likely find one that is a better fit for you.
Check Their References
Ask the mover to give you references of recent moves they have performed for other companies that are similar to yours. Many movers will say they are “commercial movers,” but in reality they have only handled household moves. Don’t let your business be a training ground for them and their crew, it could be an expensive mistake. Many companies will be unable to give any references that they have recently moved, so asking for moving references will definitely help you find a professional mover.
Certificate Of Insurance
Ask the mover if they would be willing to provide you with a copy of insurance. This protects you against property damage and/or workers’ compensation claims if someone gets injured at your business. This is a standard request. If the mover hesitates or refuses, then you have weeded out another company on your list.
What’s The Plan?
Once you conduct a pre-move survey with the prospective movers, ask them to provide an outline for the move. The plan should provide important information, such as how many trucks, men and support equipment they will commit to your project, how the move will flow and how long it will take from start to finish. You can then determine if this plan meets your company’s needs.
The Estimate
The pricing can be confusing to decipher, but don’t make the mistake of focusing just on hourly rates. We have heard a lot of stories of customers choosing other companies based on the lowest hourly rate, then they find out their move took significantly longer than estimated so the bill is significantly larger than expected. If a mover’s estimate seems too good to be true… well, you know the rest.
Moving can often be stressful, especially when it comes to moving your business since there’s potentially some lost revenue at stake. We hope you find this information helpful and allows your move to go smooth and efficient.
